Lakewood requires lawns to be kept below six inches; grass or weeds at six inches or higher violate Chapter 1775 and are subject to citation.
Under Lakewood Codified Ordinances Section 1775.01(a)(32), tall grasses or other undesirable vegetation exceeding a height of six inches (excluding maintained ornamental grasses and a registered Managed Natural Landscape under Section 1775.03) must be cut or destroyed within forty-eight hours of notice. The City separately defines a conventional 'turf-grass lawn' as one 'intended to be maintained at a height of no more than five inches' (Section 1775.03(a)(6)). After a citation, if the owner, occupant, or manager fails to cut the high grass, the City of Lakewood may remove it at a cost of $100 per hour billed back to the property owner.
Citation under Chapter 1775; if uncorrected after notice, City abatement at $100/hour assessed to the property owner.
