Lakewood's Forestry Unit maintains and trims all 13,100+ trees on public property, including tree-lawn (parkway) trees; residents should not prune them and instead request service from Streets & Forestry.
The City of Lakewood Forestry Unit maintains an inventory of over 13,100 trees located on public property, including those on tree lawns and within parks. The Unit employs a certified arborist manager and a crew of four certified arborists equipped to trim branches, assess trees for disease and safety, remove diseased trees of any size including the stumps, plant new trees, and shred the resulting wastes. Because tree-lawn trees are public property, residents should not prune or remove them; the City removes a tree only when it is diseased, dead, or in decline and poses a danger to the public. The forestry and street-tree program is supported by the Tree Advisory and Education Board, established under Chapter 152 of the Lakewood Codified Ordinances. Separately, vegetation in the public right-of-way that exceeds three feet and impedes visibility is regulated under Section 1775.02 (see Tree Removal / Right-of-Way Vegetation).
Unauthorized cutting or removal of a public tree-lawn tree should be reported to Streets & Forestry (streets@lakewoodoh.gov); the City performs all trimming and removal of public trees.
