Tree removal permit rules in Hollywood, FL β sometimes called heritage tree, protected tree, or street tree ordinances β list which trees require a permit before you can cut them down.
Hollywood requires permits for tree removal in many cases. Tree trimming and removal is regulated through the city's development and landscaping codes. Contact Hollywood Planning & Development for tree permit requirements.
Chapter 106 of the Hollywood Code of Ordinances regulates tree removal and relocation. A permit is required to destroy or remove trees per Section 106.26. Owner-occupied single-family properties are exempt from most provisions except for trees with trunk diameter of 3 inches or more measured at 4.5 feet above grade (Diameter at Breast Height or DBH). To apply, submit the tree species, location on property, and photographs to the Engineering Division at City Hall Room 308. Staff inspects the tree to determine if it meets removal criteria. Replacement trees must be planted within 60 days of permit approval, be Florida Grade #1 or better, at least 12 feet in height, and not within 2.5 feet of paved surfaces. All swale trees must be replaced in the swale. Relocation on site may be approved instead of removal. Non-permitted tree removal incurs an increased penalty fee of $90 per tree.
Removal without permit: violation of Ch. 155.54, 155.99, and Ch. 106 plus the Landscape Manual. Penalty: $90 per tree for non-permitted removal. Additional Code Enforcement fines possible.
