Fall River's Urban Tree Commission and Park Board oversee public tree management under the Parks and Trees ordinance. Property owners must maintain trees on their property to prevent hazards to public areas. All work on city trees must comply with ANSI A300 pruning standards and be supervised by a Massachusetts certified arborist.
The Park Board, in conjunction with the Urban Tree Commission, manages planting, protection, maintenance, and removal of trees on public property. The Board may order removal or trimming of trees on private property that pose a threat to public safety or the urban forest. Property owners are responsible for keeping trees from constituting a hazard or impediment to travel or vision on streets. The Tree Warden serves as a nonvoting member of the Urban Tree Commission.
Unauthorized removal of public shade tree: $500 to $5,000+ (MGL c.87 Β§6). Replacement planting may be required.
