The county declares overgrown weeds a seasonal fire hazard and public nuisance under Government Code 39561 and County Code 8.12. Each spring, notices are published and mailed to parcels with a prior history of violation. Owners must cut weeds to 4 inches or less and create a 30 ft clearance around any structure. Noxious weeds on the California Department of Food and Agriculture A and B lists (yellow starthistle, puncturevine, arundo) must be controlled. Compliance inspections begin in late May. Unabated parcels are cleared by county contractors with costs added to the tax roll.
Abatement charges plus 284 dollar administrative fee. Repeat offenders may face escalating admin citations to 500 dollars. Unpaid costs become tax-roll liens.
