McCracken County, KY Landscaping Rules: Weed Ordinances (2026)

Section 110.13(E), part of the county's property maintenance code, makes the excessive growth of grass or weeds on any property or premise a public nuisance and sets a specific height trigger: weeds and grasses over ten inches tall must be properly cut, and all noxious, meaning harmful, weeds are prohibited outright regardless of height. The section carves out an exemption for agricultural and gardening practices, so working farmland and gardens are not swept into the height limit. Because § 110.13(E) sits inside the broader nuisance list in § 110.13, it is enforced the same way as the county's other property maintenance violations: a Code Enforcement Officer, appointed by the County Judge Executive with Fiscal Court approval under § 110.22, issues a notice of violation or citation under § 110.20 and can abate the growth directly if it presents an immediate danger, charging the cost back to the owner.

Section 110.05 makes the property owner responsible even where a tenant or occupant let the growth happen, and presumes the owner knew about it unless the owner proves otherwise. The property maintenance code applies countywide except inside the incorporated limits of the City of Paducah, which enforces its own separate weed ordinance under its own code.
