Clinton Township, MI Mobility & Curb Rules: Bike Lane Rules (2026)

05 of the Codified Ordinances sets the operating rules for anyone riding a bicycle or tricycle in Clinton Township. Subsection (m) requires riders on a roadway to stay to the far right edge at all times, and subsection (e) backs that up by requiring single-file riding unless the roadway or path is specifically designed to let bicycles ride two abreast. Subsection (g) goes further: whenever a usable path next to a roadway is available, a rider must use that path instead of riding in the road.

Riders also owe every duty imposed on a motor vehicle driver under Chapter 410 and the Michigan Vehicle Code (subsection (a)), must obey official traffic signals and signs unless a police officer directs otherwise (subsection (b)), and cannot carry a package or bundle that keeps both hands off the handlebars (subsection (f)). Anyone riding on a sidewalk where signs do not prohibit it must yield to pedestrians and give an audible signal before passing (subsection (l)), and no one under twelve may ride on the roadway unless the area has no sidewalks available for pedestrian or bicycle travel (subsection (k)). 04. 06 makes Chapter 430's bicycle-specific rule control.
