Bergen County, NJ Mobility & Curb Rules: Bike Lane Rules (2026)

Article III, Section (d), Bikes/Roller Skates/Sleds/Carts, of the Bergen County Parks System Rules and Regulations sets the baseline in paragraph 1: no person shall roller skate or ride a bicycle, sled, cart, hoverboard, scooter, or similar device on or within park premises except upon a path, roadway, or other area designated by the County, and only in a manner that does not interfere with another visitor's enjoyment of the grounds. Paragraph 2 tightens that further for the county's shared paths specifically: bicycles, roller skates, sleds, carts, hoverboards, scooters, and similar devices are prohibited on any path within the Bergen County Parks except inside Saddle River County Park or wherever the Department has posted signage permitting them, and no jumps or freestyle maneuvers are allowed anywhere.

Paragraph 3 extends the same ban to the area around any permitted carnival or special event, unless the event permit specifically authorizes wheeled devices. A related rule in Article III, Section (z), Motorized Vehicles or Devices, caps electric-assist bikes, mopeds, and similar motorized devices at 10 miles per hour on park premises and bars them from sidewalks and pedestrian paths entirely, so an e-bike rider faces both the path restriction in Section (d) and the speed cap in Section (z). Cyclists who want to ride outside a designated path or route need the Department's written permission before doing so.
