Dallas County does not operate a countywide bicycle network. Bike lanes are designed and maintained by individual cities and TxDOT on state highways. DART runs regional transit, and NCTCOG coordinates Veloweb regional trail planning.
Dallas County Public Works maintains roads only in unincorporated areas, where bicycle facilities are limited. Within cities, bike lanes are designated, marked, and enforced under municipal traffic codes. The North Central Texas Council of Governments coordinates the Regional Veloweb, a planned 1,800-mile shared-use path system, but adoption depends on member city construction. DART operates buses and light rail with bicycle racks and reduced-fare programs. State law in TX Transportation Code 545.058 governs bicycle riding to the right and lane use, applying to riders countywide regardless of city.
State traffic violations involving bicycles carry fines up to 200 dollars per Transportation Code Chapter 545. City bike lane rules add city fines from 50 to 500 dollars. Dallas County does not enforce beyond state law.
