New Orleans, LA Mobility & Curb Rules: TNC Pickup Zones (2026)

City Code § 162-1735 bars TNC drivers from picking up or discharging a passenger "in any designated taxicab stand areas," keeping ride-share activity out of the curb space the city reserves for licensed taxicabs. Airport pickups run on a separate track: § 162-1737 provides that no TNC or TNC driver may pick up passengers at Louis Armstrong International Airport "unless specifically authorized to do so by the New Orleans Aviation Board," which may also impose its own fees and costs for that authorization on top of anything else owed under chapter 162.

Pickups more broadly must originate through the TNC's digital network rather than the street: § 162-1734 prohibits street hailing, requiring drivers to be matched to a passenger through the app and to show electronic proof of a prearranged ride on demand by the department of public works or police. Once a ride request is accepted, § 162-1736 requires the driver to complete it, refusing a passenger bound for a destination within ten miles outside city limits, including airport trips for authorized drivers, is prohibited, and TNCs must ensure non-discriminatory pickup and drop-off across the city's geographic boundaries.
