City Code § 111-121, governing the use of public parking garages, was amended in 1983 (Ord. No. 83-225) to add Subsection L, which bars parking in an individual garage space designated for ridesharing without displaying a valid rideshare participant permit. The Parking Director is directed to establish rules and regulations for the ridesharing program and to designate which spaces in each city garage are set aside for rideshare vehicles; the provision has since been updated in 2002, 2004 and 2009. This sits alongside the garage's other operating rules: only passenger vehicles may park in a public garage at all (§ 111-121A), vehicles must stay within the marked boundaries of their space (§ 111-121B), and drivers must enter and exit only at posted entrance and exit points (§ 111-121G).

The fine schedule at § 111-85A(1)(b)[19] specifically lists 'parking without a valid sticker in spaces designated for rideshare participants' as a $40 restricted-area violation. A vehicle parked illegally in an individual garage space in violation of § 111-121, including an unpermitted rideshare space, may be towed to a City vehicle pound under § 111-122, with redemption and storage fees payable under § 111-72 or § 111-73 before release.
