West Bloomfield, MI Noise from Specific Sources: Delivery Truck Noise (2026)

Section 15-141(d)(3) creates a narrow, time-limited exception to the Township's 85/75 dBA baseline noise standard in subsection (c) for the delivery, loading and/or unloading of materials, goods or other merchandise by the use of motorized equipment, metal-tired hand trucks, racks, conveyors, or other types of equipment. That exception runs between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, a slightly wider weekday window than the 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. construction-noise exception in paragraph (1), but narrower on weekends than several of the residential exceptions elsewhere in subsection (d).

Outside those hours, a delivery truck idling, backing up with a beeping alarm, or a crew using metal-tired hand trucks to move pallets at a business loading dock is not shielded by the exception and is measured against the flat 85 dBA daytime and 75 dBA nighttime caps in subsection (c), or against the general disturbance prohibition in subsection (a) if no decibel reading is taken. The exception sits in Section 15-141, Chapter 15, Article V, Offenses Against Public Peace, most recently amended by Ordinance No.

C-755, Section 1, adopted September 12, 2011, with the underlying disturbing-the-peace language dating to Ordinance No. 63A in 1974. Because the section carries no separate fine for a delivery-noise violation, an early-morning or late-night delivery that disturbs neighbors defaults to the Code's general misdemeanor penalty in Section 1-10(a), enforceable by the West Bloomfield Police Department, and each additional day of the disturbance is treated as a separate offense under Section 1-10(b)(2).
