West Bloomfield, MI Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Section 10-111(h) of the Charter Township of West Bloomfield Code of Ordinances makes it unlawful to park or store a motor vehicle or recreational unit on a residential lawn, meaning any grassed portion of a residential lot outside an established driveway or paved parking area. The only exception the section itself cross-references is § 10-112(3), which allows a single recreational unit, such as a camper, trailer, or off-road vehicle, to sit unenclosed in a rear yard on a non-lakefront lot if it stays entirely behind the rear building line and is screened from neighboring view by evergreen plantings, a fence, or a wall.

Outside that narrow rear-yard allowance, vehicles and recreational units must stay off the grass. The same Division 2 article separately permits ordinary passenger vehicles, cars, vans, pickup trucks, SUVs and crossovers, to park on residential property generally under § 10-111(a), and it allows passenger vehicles equipped with snowplows or salt spreaders to be stored outdoors from November 1 through April 1 under § 10-111(f). Enforcement of the lawn-parking ban runs through the township's Planning and Development code enforcement staff and the West Bloomfield Police Department, applying the Division 3 penalty schedule at § 10-119: a $150 civil infraction fine for a first violation and $300 for a second or subsequent violation within a two-year span, plus the township's costs of prosecution and collection. The Township Board adopted the current lawn-parking prohibition by Ordinance No. C-483-D on May 13, 2019.
