Full Breakdown

A generator counts as a "stationary source of sound" under Wilmington's noise ordinance. In residence districts it can't push the 24-hour equivalent sound level past 65 dBA between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., or past 55 dBA between 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., measured at the property line of the neighbor complaining. Business districts get 75/65 dBA and industrial districts 85 dBA. The department of licenses and inspections enforces this section and measures with a calibrated ANSI sound level meter.
