Under Sec. 34-169(13), a running air conditioner, electric motor, pool pump, exhaust fan, filter or similar mechanical equipment can't exceed set decibel limits at the receiving property line. In single-family zones the cap is 55 dBA (5 dBA above ambient) overnight and 60 dBA (10 dBA above ambient) during the day; multifamily and other districts get higher ceilings, up to 65 dBA. The rule doesn't apply to noise covered by a valid construction permit.
