Stockton Metropolitan Airport (SCK) operates under a 2018 ALUCP with noise contours guiding residential development. Residents may contact airport management for noise concerns.
Stockton Metropolitan Airport (KSCK), located approximately three miles southeast of downtown, is a joint civil-military facility operated by the City of Stockton. The San Joaquin Council of Governments Airport Land Use Commission adopted an updated ALUCP for SCK in February 2018, consistent with the October 2016 Airport Layout Plan. The ALUCP establishes noise compatibility zones and contours that restrict new noise-sensitive development within designated areas. Stockton Development Code Chapter 16.60 requires acoustical analysis for residential projects within the 65 dB Ldn transportation noise contour, and interior noise levels in habitable rooms must not exceed 45 dB Ldn per California Building Standards Code Title 24. The airport encourages residents to attend Airport Advisory Committee meetings or contact airport management directly regarding noise concerns. Federal Aviation Administration regulations govern flight paths and altitude requirements.
Aircraft noise is primarily regulated at the federal level by the FAA. Local enforcement focuses on land use compatibility. Development within ALUCP noise contours without required acoustical analysis may be denied or conditioned by the City.
