Riverside County Ordinance No. 847 regulates amplified sound from speakers, bands, DJs, PA systems, and vehicle audio in unincorporated areas. During the day, amplified music must stay within residential dBA limits (generally 55 dBA) measured at the receiving property line. From 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., the nighttime limit (~45 dBA) applies, and a plainly-audible standard is typically used, meaning an officer can cite if lyrics or bass are clearly discernible inside a neighboring dwelling. Special events, weddings, and commercial venues may obtain a Temporary Outdoor Event permit through the Planning Department or an amplified sound permit specifying later hours and higher limits. Short-term rental hosts are separately responsible under Ord. 927 for guest amplified music and can face STR permit penalties in addition to noise citations.
