Rockville, MD Noise Ordinances: Amplified Music & Events (2026)

Amplified music and sound in Rockville are regulated under Montgomery County Code Chapter 31B. Amplified sound from commercial establishments such as bars and restaurants must not exceed 60 dBA at the nearest residential property between 10 PM and 7 AM. During daytime hours, the general residential limit of 65 dBA applies. Outdoor events, festivals, and concerts in Rockville Town Square or other public spaces require a noise permit from the Montgomery County DEP if sound levels are expected to exceed normal limits. The permit process requires advance application and may include conditions on hours of operation, speaker orientation, and maximum volume. Maryland Transportation Article Section 21-1122 also prohibits operating sound amplification systems from vehicles that are audible at 50 feet or more. Rockville City Code Chapter 13 addresses miscellaneous offenses including prohibitions on creating noise disturbances through sound-producing devices in public spaces. The Rockville Town Square area may have specific event noise allowances coordinated through the city.
