Tallahassee prohibits amplified outdoor sound in the Urban Core after 11 PM on weekdays and after midnight on weekends. Outside the Urban Core, residential properties are limited to 55 dB(A) daytime and 50 dB(A) nighttime. TPD enforces with a meter at the receiving property.
Code of Ordinances Ch. 12, Art. IV, §§ 12-92–12-97 (Ord. 15-O-37AA, amended 22-O-13) govern sound standards. In the Urban Core District (around the Capitol, FSU, and FAMU campuses), outdoor amplified sound is banned daily from 11 PM–7 AM (weekdays) or midnight–7 AM (weekends). Outside the Urban Core, residential receiving properties may not exceed 55 dB(A)/65 dB(C) from 7 AM–10 PM or 50 dB(A)/60 dB(C) from 10 PM–7 AM. Non-residential limits are higher. Officers are authorized to proactively cite violations and allow a 10-minute voluntary compliance window before issuing a citation.
