Amplified music and sound is prohibited in Bergen County parks except for official county use or with a written permit issued by the Department of Parks. Outside the parks, amplified sound is regulated by each municipality under New Jersey's noise framework.
Bergen County Parks System Rules and Regulations, effective March 19, 2025, prohibit sound amplification on park grounds unless authorized by official county use or a permit issued through the Department of Parks. Sound trucks and uncontrolled, loud, or raucous noise are barred. Event organizers planning concerts, weddings, or gatherings in Overpeck, Van Saun, Saddle River, or other county parks must apply through Reservations and Permits in advance. On private property and downtown business districts, amplified music is regulated by each municipality's noise code, generally aligned with the NJDEP Model Noise Control Ordinance. Bars and restaurants typically require a separate municipal entertainment license.
Park violators may be ejected and cited by Bergen County Sheriff. Municipal fines typically $250 to $2,000; permits can be suspended.
