Barking dog rules in Ada County, ID — also called nuisance dog, dog noise, or excessive barking ordinances — define when a barking dog becomes a code violation and how complaints are handled.
Barking dogs are addressed directly in Ada County's noise ordinance. Section 5-13-3 lists 'domesticated animals' among the sources of loud or unusual noise prohibited between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM in unincorporated areas.
The county noise ordinance (5-13-3) expressly names domesticated animals as a possible source of unlawful noise. Between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM it is unlawful to allow loud or unusual noise 'by means of voice, musical instrument, horn, radio, loudspeaker, automobile, machinery, other sound amplifying equipment, domesticated animals, or any other means' that disturbs a reasonable person. Persistent daytime barking may also be handled under the county nuisance ordinance and Ada County's animal-control provisions, enforced through the Sheriff and the Idaho Humane Society contract.
A noise violation is a misdemeanor per section 5-13-5 and Idaho Code 18-113. Animal-control matters are enforced by the Ada County Sheriff and Idaho Humane Society.
