Barking dog rules in Port St. Lucie, FL — also called nuisance dog, dog noise, or excessive barking ordinances — define when a barking dog becomes a code violation and how complaints are handled.
Under Port St. Lucie Code section 92.09, it is unlawful to keep any animal that barks, howls or makes similar noise between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., or that does so continuously for five minutes or more at any time of day.
Animal noise is regulated in Chapter 92 (Animals), not the general noise chapter. Section 92.09 makes it unlawful for any person to keep, harbor, own or maintain any animal that causes a noise disturbance by barking, yelping, howling, screeching, squawking, chirping, cawing, crowing or whistling between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., or that makes such noise for continuous periods of five minutes or more at a time. This is enforced by the Port St. Lucie Police Department's animal control unit. Persistent or daytime barking that is not covered by the 11 p.m.-6 a.m. window can still be cited if it runs continuously for five minutes or longer. Separately, animal noise that becomes plainly audible 100 feet from the source could also implicate Chapter 94 section 94.04(i).
Violations of Chapter 92 are subject to the penalties in section 92.99 of the City Code and are handled by Port St. Lucie Police animal control as code/citation matters.
