San Bernardino County, CA Noise Ordinances: Construction Hours (2026)

Construction noise in unincorporated San Bernardino County is governed by the County Development Code, Section 83.01.080 (Noise). The County does not set a numeric construction-noise decibel limit; instead it limits the hours during which construction noise is exempt from the general noise standards. Under Section 83.01.080(g)(3), temporary construction, maintenance, repair, or demolition activities are exempt from the noise regulations of that section between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., except on Sundays and Federal holidays. In practical terms, construction is allowed Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. without violating the noise standards, but is not exempt on Sundays or Federal holidays. The County's own acoustical guidance notes that nighttime construction (for example, early-morning concrete pours) would require County approval. The same 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. exemption window also applies to construction-related ground vibration under Section 83.01.090(c)(2). Outside the exempt hours, construction noise is measured against the standard residential limits in Table 5 (55 dB(A) Leq day / 45 dB(A) Leq night).
