Kent industrial sources are capped at 70 dBA day and 65 dBA night at another industrial property, but only 60 dBA day and 50 dBA night when received at a residential property. KCC 8.05 and WAC 173-60 apply.
The Kent Valley is one of the largest industrial and warehouse distribution hubs on the West Coast, home to Amazon, REI, Blue Origin, and dozens of logistics operators. Kent City Code 8.05 and WAC 173-60 assign EDNA Class C (industrial) to these parcels and set maximum permissible sound levels by source-receiver pair. An industrial source received at another industrial property may not exceed 70 dBA at any time, but the same source received at a commercial property is limited to 65 dBA, and at a residential property is limited to 60 dBA day or 50 dBA night. Kent industrial operators running 24-hour warehouse yards, cold storage, truck loading, or rail operations must attenuate noise with barriers, enclosures, and equipment siting when any residential EDNA lies within range. The Puget Sound Regional Council and Department of Ecology handle multi-jurisdiction complaints. Persistent industrial noise problems can be reported through the Kent Code Enforcement office.
Industrial noise above WAC 173-60 limits at any residential or commercial receiving property is a civil infraction. Kent may escalate chronic problems to nuisance abatement.
