Commercial trucks over 10,000 pounds GVWR generally cannot park on Kent residential streets except for active loading. Warehouse districts and truck routes have separate rules.
Under Kent City Code Title 9, commercial vehicles with a gross weight over 10,000 pounds are prohibited from parking on public streets in residential zones except for up to a short active loading, unloading, or service window. This includes semi tractors, trailers, tow trucks, dump trucks, and stake-body work trucks. Parking is permitted on designated truck routes and in industrial and warehouse zones east of the valley floor where the city's logistics industry is concentrated. Inside residential areas, a contractor or landscaping truck making a service call is allowed to park while the work is being performed but must not be stored overnight. Food delivery step-vans and plumber service vehicles under 10,000 pounds are generally treated like passenger vehicles for parking purposes. Owner-operators who live in Kent should arrange truck storage at an industrial yard rather than on a neighborhood street.
