Kent driveway aprons require Public Works approval under KCC Title 6. New or widened driveways need a right-of-way construction permit, and vehicles must not block sidewalks.
Any new or replacement driveway apron that crosses a Kent sidewalk or curb requires a right-of-way construction permit from Kent Public Works under Kent City Code Title 6. Standards cover apron width, slope, sight distance, and ADA ramp compliance for sidewalks. On single-family lots the first driveway is typically allowed at 10 to 24 feet wide at the property line, with wider aprons permitted only for a circular drive, corner lot, or large garage. Kent prohibits parking vehicles so that any part extends over a public sidewalk. Paving the front yard to avoid this is restricted by KCC 15 landscape rules that cap impervious front-yard cover. Commercial driveways near State Route 167, Central Avenue, or Meeker Street must meet additional spacing rules to protect traffic flow. Damaged driveway aprons in the right-of-way are the owner's responsibility.
