Renton, WA Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Renton Municipal Code Title 4 and Public Works design standards govern new and modified driveway approaches across curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. Any new curb cut or driveway modification requires a right-of-way use permit from the Renton Public Works Transportation Division, including a traffic control plan if work will occupy a travel lane. Residential driveways are typically limited to a maximum of 20 feet wide at the property line for single-family homes, with larger widths for duplex or multifamily allowed in certain zones. Approved materials include concrete, asphalt, and approved pavers; dirt or grass driveways are not permitted in developed residential zones. Driveways must slope away from the street or capture runoff on-site where required under the Surface Water Design Manual to protect the Cedar River and Lake Washington. Parking is prohibited on landscaped front yards and on sidewalks. Corner lots must maintain sight-distance triangles to keep visibility at intersections.
