Renton, WA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

RMC 4-4-085F regulates recreational vehicles, defined broadly to include trailers, motor coaches, motor homes, fifth-wheels, campers, boats and boat trailers, and utility trailers, on any residentially zoned lot (RC, R-1, R-4, R-6, R-8, R-10, R-14, and RMF) with a dwelling unit. Outside of loading or unloading activity completed within three days in a two-week period, an RV cannot be parked or stored on the property unless it complies with a ranked list of locations. First preference is a vented garage or carport. Second is a side or rear yard, at least five feet from the property line if the RV is taller than eight feet, and it must be sight-screened from the street if parked broadside on the side or rear of the lot.

Third is a front-yard driveway, at least five feet from the side property line and parked perpendicular to the street. If none of those work, the Administrator can approve a less-obtrusive alternate location, potentially with required screening, and if nothing on-site qualifies the vehicle must be stored off site entirely. The Administrator has authority to modify these standards under RMC 4-9-250D. The whole section is enforced as a public nuisance: RMC 4-4-085A declares that parking vehicles in violation of the section constitutes a nuisance whose unabated presence threatens public health, safety and welfare, with violations enforced under chapter 1-10 RMC. Disabled, unlicensed, or unregistered vehicles and boats are separately barred from residential lots unless stored fully enclosed and out of public view.
