Davis regulates but does not ban leaf blowers. Municipal Code Section 24.02.040 caps a powered blower at 70 dBA at 50 feet, bars two blowers within 100 feet, and exempts single-family use under ten minutes.
Davis Municipal Code Section 24.02.040 sets the operative leaf-blower law: no powered blower may exceed 70 dBA measured at 50 feet (subsection 4), none may operate within a 100-foot radius of another blower at the same time (subsection 5), and on single-family residential property the 70 dBA limit does not apply if the blower runs less than ten minutes per occurrence (subsection 6). Despite Davis's reputation, there is no adopted permanent gas-blower ban. On January 16, 2024 the City Council approved only a transition plan toward eventually phasing out gas blowers; they remain legal to use. California AB 1346 restricts the sale of new small off-road engines statewide but does not itself ban their use in Davis.
Exceeding 70 dBA at 50 feet, running two blowers within 100 feet, or non-exempt use is an infraction (misdemeanor on a third offense in a year). No fine exists for gas blowers specifically, as no ban has been adopted.
