Dallas Code Section 30-2 presumes playing radio, TV, or musical instruments at a volume that disturbs persons in nearby dwellings to be offensive. Entertainment districts like Deep Ellum have elevated ambient noise but still must comply with Chapter 30.
Section 30-2 of the Dallas Code lists the playing of any radio, phonograph, television set, amplified or reproducing device, or any musical instrument in a manner or with a volume to disturb the peace, quiet, comfort, or repose of persons in any dwelling, apartment, hotel, or other type of residence as a presumed offensive noise. Sound trucks and amplified sound on public streets creating raucous noise are also addressed. The Deep Ellum entertainment district and Uptown nightlife area have elevated ambient noise from live venues, but venues must still comply with Chapter 30 standards. Special event permits may allow amplified sound under specific conditions.
Violations carry fines up to $2,000 under Chapter 30. Repeat offenders face escalating penalties. Venues may face permit revocation.
