Dallas Chapter 30 does not set specific decibel limits for most noise sources. Instead, it uses a subjective standard of 'unreasonably loud, disturbing, and unnecessary' noise and lists specific presumed-offensive noises in Section 30-2.
Unlike many cities that set specific dBA limits, Dallas Code Chapter 30 uses a subjective standard. Section 30-1 makes it unlawful to make any unreasonably loud, disturbing, and unnecessary noise. Section 30-2 lists specific noises and vibrations presumed offensive, including loud music, animal noise over 15 minutes, garbage collection near residential between 10 PM and 7 AM, and construction outside permitted hours. Section 51-6.102 addresses noise regulations in the former Chapter 51 development code context. Enforcement is based on whether the noise disturbs the peace, quiet, comfort, or repose of persons in nearby dwellings rather than measured decibel levels.
Offenses under Chapter 30 are punishable by a criminal fine of up to $2,000. Civil penalties up to $1,000 may also apply per violation.
