Quiet hours in Spartanburg County, SC — also called the noise ordinance, nighttime noise rules, or residential quiet time — define the hours during which excessive noise is prohibited.
Spartanburg County bars noisy household and construction activity within 300 feet of any residence between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. in unincorporated areas. It is also unlawful countywide to willfully make any unreasonably loud noise that disturbs the peace and quiet.
The county's noise ordinance (Code ch. 30, art. II) governs unincorporated Spartanburg County. Section 30-28 makes it unlawful to willfully make any unreasonably loud and unseemly noise that disturbs the peace or unreasonably annoys residents. Section 30-29 adds a firm nighttime window: within 300 feet of any dwelling you may not run lawn mowers, domestic tools, construction machinery, garage machinery, or a refuse front-end loader between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Inside the City of Spartanburg, Sec. 22-50(b)(4) separately targets yelling, shouting, and singing on public streets, particularly between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
A violation of the county noise article is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $500.00 or up to 30 days in jail; each violation is a separate offense.
