Jackson County, GA Noise Ordinances: Quiet Hours (2026)

Sec. 26-63(a)(3), part of the county's "Noises and disturbances" article, separately targets human-made noise rather than equipment: yelling, shouting, whistling, singing, or other similar noisemaking on public streets or private property during the listed hours is unlawful when it is done "so as to annoy or disturb the quiet, comfort or repose of persons" in any office, dwelling, hotel, or other residence, or of persons in the vicinity. This sits alongside the broader restriction in Sec. 26-63(a), which bans loud or unusual noises detrimental or annoying to the public generally, expressly naming disturbances in or around churches or multiple-family complexes such as loud activity in swimming pool and clubhouse areas.

Unlike the mechanical-sound-equipment clause in Sec. 26-63(a)(1), which turns on audibility at a 300-foot distance, subsection (a)(3) reaches voices and noisemaking directly and applies to both public streets and private property. Sec. 26-65 makes any violation of this article, including this subsection, punishable under the county's general penalty in Sec. 1-12, with each violated section or subsection a separate offense, and the sheriff's office is the enforcing agency for unincorporated county calls.
