Plano defines daytime as 7 AM-10 PM and nighttime as 10:01 PM-6:59 AM. Commercial/entertainment venues limited to 70 dB daytime and 60 dB nighttime, measured at the complainant's property. Power equipment prohibited outdoors in residential zones 10 PM-7 AM.
Ordinance No. 2023-9-18 updated Plano's noise regulations under Chapter 14, Article V. Sound levels are measured using A-weighted decibel scale (dBA). A noise nuisance is defined as any specific noise likely to cause unreasonable discomfort to a reasonable person. Exemptions exist for emergency vehicles and government equipment. Permits may extend allowed hours and decibel limits. Unreasonable vibration perceptible without instruments on affected property is also prohibited.
Fine up to $500 per offense. Each day a violation continues constitutes a separate offense.
