Walton County, GA Noise Ordinances: Quiet Hours (2026)

Section 34-44(3) of the Walton County Noise Disturbance Ordinance sets the county's general nighttime quiet hours for amplified sound. within or adjacent to a residential area, noise-sensitive area, public right-of-way or public space, if the sound is plainly audible across the real property boundary of the source. The subsection goes further for commercial use: in all residential areas and within 500 feet of them, no sound amplifying equipment may be installed, operated or used for commercial purposes at any time, day or night. for lawn mowers, generators and similar machinery, so loudspeakers and yard equipment are held to slightly different nighttime hours under the same article.

'Plainly audible' is defined in section 34-42 to include any detectable component of sound, including rhythmic bass, heard with unaided hearing. Section 34-43 states the general rule that no person shall make or continue any noise disturbance, and section 34-41 makes a violation of any Article IV provision unlawful, punishable as provided in section 1-12 and tried in the magistrate court of Walton County. The ordinance was adopted July 9, 2021.
