Under New Jersey law (N.J.S.A. 39:4-56.5), a vehicle left on a public street or on private property without the owner's consent for more than 48 hours, or any period without current plates, is presumed abandoned and can be towed. Report abandoned vehicles to Galloway Township Police or Code Enforcement.
New Jersey's abandoned-vehicle statute, N.J.S.A. 39:4-56.5, makes it unlawful to abandon a motor vehicle on any highway (other than a limited-access highway), other public property, or private property without the owner's consent. A vehicle left more than 48 hours, or any period without current license plates, is presumed abandoned. Galloway Township Code Enforcement handles junk and inoperable vehicles stored on private property as a nuisance. Legally parked vehicles, and utility vehicles left where they do not interfere with traffic, are not treated as abandoned.
First offense fine not less than $100 nor more than $500; subsequent violations not less than $500 nor more than $1,000; the vehicle may be removed and impounded.
