Full Breakdown
Code Sec. 34-76 makes it unlawful to abandon, wreck, dismantle, or leave a junked or abandoned vehicle on another person's property, public property, or even your own real property, applying in both the City of Lafayette and unincorporated parish areas. An abandoned vehicle is one inoperable and left unattended more than 3 days; a junked vehicle has sat over 30 days with missing parts, pest infestation, or other deterioration. Under Sec. 34-77, LCG may take custody of the vehicle and, after a hearing officer's order, sell it for scrap or salvage or pay a towing company to remove it.
Violations & Fines
Owners get notice and a hearing before a licensed hearing officer under the administrative adjudication process; failure to comply with a final order lets LCG seize, tow, and sell or scrap the vehicle at the owner's expense.
