In Simpsonville, any unregistered, inoperable, derelict, or abandoned motor vehicle left on public or private property is a nuisance unless stored inside a building. A wrecked or inoperable vehicle left 30 days is a junk motor vehicle and may be abated by the city.
Simpsonville regulates abandoned and junk vehicles in Chapter 18. Sec. 18-37(c)(5) declares any unregistered, inoperable, derelict, or abandoned motor vehicle a nuisance unless stored inside a building. Sec. 18-36 defines a derelict vehicle to include one left on private property without consent, or on streets/sidewalks/public property, for more than 24 consecutive hours, with narrow exceptions allowing one vehicle undergoing repair (three months) or restoration (six months) per property. Sec. 18-61 makes it unlawful to accumulate junk or old vehicles anywhere in the city except within an enclosed building or area, and defines a junk motor vehicle as one wrecked, dismantled, inoperative, or discarded for 30 days.
Ch. 18 nuisances carry penalties up to a $500 fine and/or 30 days imprisonment per day of violation (Sec. 18-41), after a 7-day notice-to-comply; the city may then abate and lien the property (Sec. 18-42).
