Universal City follows Texas Transportation Code Chapter 683 to tag, tow, and dispose of abandoned vehicles left on public or private property for over 48 hours with notice requirements to owners.
Universal City enforces abandoned-vehicle rules under Texas Transportation Code Chapter 683. A vehicle is considered abandoned if it is inoperable or left more than 48 hours on public property, more than 48 hours on private property without consent, or left more than five days in a parking facility. Universal City Police or Code Enforcement may tag the vehicle with a 10-day notice, after which it can be towed to a licensed vehicle storage facility. The city must send notice to the last registered owner and any lienholder within 10 days of impoundment. Owners have 20 days from notice to claim the vehicle and pay towing and storage fees; unclaimed vehicles are sold at public auction. On private property, the property owner may also initiate removal by following Chapter 683 notice procedures.
