Auburn prohibits parking or storing a commercial motor vehicle, utility trailer, or semi-trailer wider than 7 feet or longer than 25 feet on any public street, alley, or other public way, except for loading/unloading up to 24 hours, permitted construction up to 72 hours, or business-adjacent use up to 72 hours on streets at least 31 feet wide.
The City of Auburn restricts large commercial vehicles on public ways. Under the city's parking rules (administered through Inspection Services and Chapter 22, Traffic), the parking or storage of any commercial motor vehicle, utility trailer, or semi-trailer that is greater than seven (7) feet wide or twenty-five (25) feet long is not permitted on any public street, alley, or other public way. Three narrow exceptions apply: (1) loading and unloading not to exceed twenty-four (24) hours; (2) vehicles used in connection with permitted construction, not to exceed seventy-two (72) hours; and (3) vehicles used in connection with an adjacent business, not to exceed seventy-two (72) hours and only on streets at least thirty-one (31) feet wide. All vehicles remain bound by the general 72-hour limit in Code Sec. 22-26 as well. For off-street commercial parking on private lots, Auburn's Zoning Ordinance (Section 513) requires improved hard-surface pavement for required parking and maneuvering areas, and road-service and storage uses must keep vehicles, equipment, and merchandise on paved surfaces and out of the right-of-way. Large trucks moving through town are also subject to Alabama's statewide size-and-weight limits (Alabama Code Title 32, Chapter 9).
Parking an oversized commercial vehicle or trailer on a street, alley, or public way outside the loading, construction, or adjacent-business exceptions is a violation and the vehicle may be cited and towed. Storing trailers or commercial equipment on an unpaved required parking area on private property can trigger a zoning/property-maintenance notice.
