St. Louis prohibits parking commercial vehicles over a certain weight or length on residential streets overnight. Semi-trucks, tractor-trailers, and large box trucks must use industrial zones or truck terminals.
Revised Code Chapter 17 restricts parking of commercial vehicles exceeding a gross weight of 12,000 lbs or length over a set limit on residential streets between 7 PM and 7 AM. Tractor-trailers and semi-trucks cannot be parked in residential districts overnight. Box trucks, work vans, and pickup trucks under the threshold used for commuting are generally allowed. On-lot parking of commercial vehicles in residential zones is restricted by Title XXVI Zoning; typically one commercial vehicle under 1 ton may be stored on a single-family lot. Industrial areas (Riverfront, Hall Street corridor, Dogtown industrial) accommodate commercial vehicle parking.
Residential street violation: $50-$100 plus tow possible. Zoning violation: notice with 30 days to cure, then $100-$500 per day.
