New Braunfels, TX Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

Sec. 114-2 of the city code, part of Chapter 114's general streets and sidewalks article, bars anyone from painting, staining or marking a sign, figure, character or letter on a sidewalk, curb or paved street inside the city limits. The prohibition is citywide, not confined to the downtown business corridor covered elsewhere in the same chapter, and it applies to homeowners, contractors and businesses alike. Approval must come from the city engineer before any marking goes down; the code carves out only one automatic pass, for markings connected to utility locates, the paint flags utility companies spray ahead of digging.

Enforcement runs through Sec. 114-6: the building official, city engineer or a code enforcement officer who finds an unapproved marking issues written notice and sets a deadline of no more than 15 days to remove or correct it, though an immediate safety threat lets the city order abatement right away. If the notice is ignored, the city can do the removal itself and bill the property owner; an unpaid bill becomes a lien on the property, second only to tax liens, carrying ten percent annual interest until paid.

Owners can appeal the violation finding, the cost, the adequacy of notice, or the lien itself to the construction board of adjustment under Sec. 114-6(d). Sec. 00 for a third or later offense.
