In Fayetteville single-family districts, a driveway and off-street parking may cover no more than 40% of the front yard and must be a defined paved or edged surface. No more than four vehicles may park outdoors, and none may sit in the street right-of-way.
UDC Sec. 172.11 governs driveways serving four or fewer parking spaces. Vehicles must park on a driveway or off-street area clearly defined by pavement, a change in materials, or edging, and that area may occupy at most 40% of the front yard. A maximum of four motor vehicles may be parked outdoors on a single-family property at any time, including the driveway. Parking in the street right-of-way, which runs from the pavement edge across any sidewalk and greenspace, is prohibited. Under traffic-code Sec. 72.03, no vehicle may stop in front of a driveway or on a sidewalk. These rules do not apply to vehicles fully inside a garage or carport, or to Residential Agricultural zoning.
Paving over more than 40% of the front yard, parking more than four vehicles outdoors, or parking on the right-of-way is a code-compliance violation drawing a notice to correct and escalating daily fines.
