Knox County zoning requires each residence to have its off-street parking (a lot, driveway, garage, or combination) on the same lot as the home. RVs and trailers must sit behind the front building line, and only one inoperable vehicle may be stored outdoors.
Under section 3.50.02, residential off-street parking must consist of a parking lot, driveway, garage, or combination, located on the same lot as the residence it serves. New driveway access to a county road is subject to Knox County Engineering and Public Works driveway/permit standards. Section 3.52.03 requires recreational vehicles and trailers to be stored behind the front building line rather than in the front-yard area near the street. The outdoor storage of more than one inoperable vehicle is not permitted (section 3.53.01). Municipal driveway standards apply inside Knoxville and Farragut.
Parking or storage that violates zoning is enforced by Codes Administration through notice and citation; driveway-access work without required permits can trigger enforcement by Engineering and Public Works.
