Boston requires EV-ready wiring in new residential construction under Article 37 (Green Building) and 15 percent EV-installed spaces in new multifamily projects per the 2022 EV-Ready policy.
Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) Article 37 green building standards require all large new projects to install EV charging infrastructure. Residential projects must make at least 25 percent of spaces EV-ready (panel capacity and conduit) and 15 percent EV-installed (Level 2 charger present). Commercial is 10 percent installed. Curbside EV charging is piloted by BTD in partnership with ChargePoint and EverCharge with parking reserved while vehicle is plugged in. One- and two-family homeowners can install a Level 2 charger with a Wiring Inspectional Services permit. Blocking an EV-designated space with a non-EV vehicle is a $100 ticket.
