Bristol, PA Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

Section 22-512 of the Bristol Borough Code, titled Automobile Parking Facilities, sits in Chapter 22, the Borough's Subdivision and Land Development chapter. Subsection 12 adds two requirements that apply only in vertical or stacked parking structures. A minimum of 5% of the spaces must be provided with charging ports for electric vehicles, and a maximum of 10% of the parking stalls can be designated for compact cars, with compact stalls reducible to eight feet in width and 15 feet in length. The subsection prints a percentage and says nothing about charger type or power level.

Surface lots in Bristol Borough are governed by the rest of § 22-512 instead. Parking rows are limited to 12 spaces when single-stacked and 24 spaces if double-stacked, a ten-foot wide curbed refuge island is required after a maximum of 12 parking spaces, and parking areas must be set back at least 15 feet from the future right-of-way line except at entrance and exit drives. The Borough also has the right to require a division of parking areas for each 100 cars or fraction thereof. Subsection 1 sends the number of off-street spaces to Chapter 27, the Zoning Ordinance, so the garage design standards in Chapter 22 work alongside the zoning parking schedule. Subsection 11 encourages pervious pavement in parking areas, in accordance with Chapter 26, Appendix C.
