Brownsville, TX Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

Section 4.4.4(31) of the Brownsville UDC governs electric vehicle charging stations. Level 1 and Level 2 units are permitted in all zoning districts when accessory to the primary permitted use, subject to building permit approval. Non-residential installations must be Level 2 or higher. Level 3 stations are permitted in the CC, RC, LI, HI, TN, TN-MU, TN-C, DE, DG, DC, and MOD districts with site and building permit approval. Charging stations are barred from the city right-of-way. Outlets and connectors must sit between 36 and 48 inches above the mounting surface, with a retraction device or a permanent place to hang cords. Electrical work follows the 2017 National Electrical Code adopted at section 18-301.
