Denver, CO Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

Denver Zoning Code § 12.4.1.2.B generally requires a zoning permit before any new structure is built, but subsection B.2 lists specific exceptions, and item h names Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE), as defined in the Denver Building Code, alongside solar panels and flagpoles. That means installing an EV charger doesn't by itself trigger zoning review. The exemption falls away if the installation also requires an administrative adjustment or variance, or if the property is a designated historic structure or sits in a Denver Landmark Preservation district under D.R.M.C. Chapter 30: those still need a permit. A separate Denver Building Code electrical permit for the wiring is still required regardless.
