Fayetteville, NC Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

Sec. 16-296, "Restricted Parking Zones," governs several categories of marked spaces, including loading and unloading zones, no-parking zones, restricted parking, fire lanes, and, since Ord. No. S2019-056 took effect on November 25, 2019, plug-in electric vehicle spaces. Subsection (b) makes it unlawful to stop, park, or otherwise block or bar access to a space designated "Plug-in Electric Vehicle Parking," with the narrow exception of vehicles propelled or powered by electricity and recharged by connecting a plug to an off-board power source or charging station. Critically, the section goes further than simply banning gas vehicles from the space: it specifies that a plug-in electric vehicle parked in the designated space but not attached to the charging station is itself in violation of the ordinance.

The space is reserved for active charging, not general EV parking. Subsection (c) sets the penalty schedule for the whole section: $100 for a fire-lane violation, $50 specifically for a plug-in electric vehicle parking violation, and $25 for any other violation of the restricted parking zone categories covered by the section.
