Fayetteville, NC Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Sec. 16-292, "Loading and Unloading Prohibited at Certain Times on Designated Streets," governs any location shown on the "Loading Zones" traffic schedule adopted under Sec. 16-61. In those marked places, it's unlawful to park and leave a vehicle standing for any purpose other than actively loading or unloading, and in any event unlawful to leave a vehicle there for more than 20 minutes, unless it's within the specific area carved out under Sec. 16-293. That carve-out is the Fayetteville Regional Airport's own loading and unloading zones out front, where the time limit drops to five minutes rather than 20, reflecting the higher turnover needed for passenger drop-off and pickup.

Sec. 16-293 also separately restricts the airport's employee parking lot and terminal building parking lot to airport staff, commission members, and other authorized users with a permit. Both sections were re-adopted under Ord. No. S2019-056 on November 25, 2019, and both cross-reference the streets and sidewalks provisions in Chapter 24. Enforcement is tied to the citywide traffic schedule system: a location only carries the 20-minute (or five-minute, at the airport) rule if it's actually listed on the adopted Loading Zones schedule maintained under Sec. 16-61, not merely because a driver believes an area functions as a loading spot.
